Canterbury pac: Wingham Fisheries Predator Ticket

Wingham Fisheries new Winter Predator ticket has been initiated so that more people can enjoy the wonderful array of pike and perch that we have in our Main Lake. We are working alongside the PAC to expand the opportunities available to their members.

The Main Lake is 40 acres and is predominantly used for a carp fishery, housing around 55 large carp with the largest exceeding 60lb. This low stock density allows for other species to flourish and the pike being one of them. See attached a Pike over 23lb and a Perch over 3lb. There's certainly bigger of both in the lake.

We have a couple of PAC members currently on board and would like to invite a handful more. The winter months are quiet for carp so there's is plenty of space to enjoy and relax in. Our lake has over 40 swims and on a busy day in the spring or summer we might get 12 on the banks. This is purposeful so that our fishery is always peaceful and our members are purely members to enjoy the serenity (and to catch a good fish). Wingham Fisheries is renowned for its environment and members pay for the privilege.

Members are vetted to ensure that we avoid becoming a rowdy commercial water, and we must keep it this way. Any disruption or breaking of the rules and an immediate ban will be implemented. By working closely with the PAC we can make sure new Predator ticket members will be a good fit and we can't wait to see friendly faces on the banks soon.

The ticket that we have created will be offered to a maximum of 15 people to begin with and will be £180 for the 4 month winter period. This runs from 14th November to the 15th March. During this time you may fish for a maximum of 18 nights and only carry out 4 nights in 14. These are the same rules all our current members follow so we will keep it the same. It ensures low angling pressure and is a main factor in our fish growing to a large size. Aim of the PAC

The Pike Anglers' Club of Great Britain was formed in 1977 as a direct result of changing attitudes toward pike.

For far too long pike had been regarded by fishery owners and some anglers as vermin, to be killed and removed at all costs. Since its inception, the PAC has done much too drastically change this mistaken attitude and pike are now widely regarded as a positive element in the natural balance of any fishery. Pike fishing has without doubt become one of the most specialised branches of coarse fishing. Not least in the methods of handling, unhooking and safe return of the fish once caught. One of the most important aspects of the PAC's work is in helping young or novice pike anglers to overcome what for some are areas of difficulty. You may well have experienced that feeling of 'what do I do now', having just caught your first pike. You are not alone; many have experienced it and lived to tell the tale, thanks to the friendly assistance of PAC members offering sound advice and guidance. The PAC works continually for the benefit of all pike and pike anglers, we seek only to further the opportunities for pike fishing, whilst preserving all that pike fishing is all about. We strive to protect pike from persecution by those who do not understand, or choose to ignore, the facts about the important role the pike plays in the balance of nature. We also work to promote pike conservation through safe practice by anglers.

Piking Basics

Pike are a large aggressive fish with a mouth full of teeth and should not to be fished for with any old tackle or on a whim. Despite their appearance pike are very delicate creatures and the utmost care is required in their care/handling and return. Far too many fish are damaged each season by poor practices/bad handling by novice fisherman who have not researched piking properly. It cannot be stressed enough that in the quest to become a competent piker one should glean as much info as possible, and should seek out someone who is an experienced piker to educate/demonstrate just how it is done.
