Joint RO's Nick and Andy handing the worthy recipient Ron Tupp (center) his prize |
Pike competitions are not something that are usually wholeheartedly embraced by the PAC. There have historically been too many issues with the prize money taking precedent often to the detriment of the pike and bad handling and bad practices the norm with the "win at any costs" idiot taking part just to have bragging rights and a wallet full of money in a sad attempt to impress his mates down the pub.
I am happy to say that this competition, if you can call it that, is different. It was set up to commemorate a top bloke associated with Mid Kent Fisheries. A bailiff at Conningbrook and long time member, sadly departed at no age at all.
Spaces are limited to 15 to 20 anglers depending on what lake your fishing on the day. It is well run and organised from within the club and is always very well represented by PAC members including members from our region. The first priority is always the pike and this ethos is at the forefront of all who fish it. This year we as a region decided to offer a years PAC membership as a prize to one of the contestants. This was thankfully won by Ron Tupp, a long time PAC member who has been missed of late at our regions meetings. (No excuse now Ron lol) I say thankfully because the next person up to get a prize was our own Mr. Larkins and I know he would have grabbed that membership knowing that I had contributed to it and that would have been gutting TBH. So well done Ron on the prize and thank you from all of us for ruining Andy's day and getting your hands on it first.
