<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">After the sad passing of our former president, former RO and continued supporter of Region 30/60 Canterbury and Thanet it was decided that a memorial trophy would be a fitting tribute to our fellow member and friend.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Our RO Nick Prior set off on a mission to secure a venue and a trophy that we could honour him with, not just this year but in perpetuity. The following is a write up of the days events. Its been a while since I put pen to paper or finger to keyboard so please ignore my rustiness.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">JR was a hero to some and a mentor to many. A man with a funny story about everything. The PAC president from 91 to 94, tackle innovator, angler and conservationist. He deserves to be remembered.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">The first Job Nick had was to secure a venue. Step forward Ken Crow long time friend and travelling companion of JR and owner of the Company running Bough Beech fishing. Ken was only too happy to indulge the PAC Region and went firm on a date of 16th March 2019. It was fitting that we had the fish in there as many will remember that is where the PAC's first unhooking video was made starring John Roberts and John Synuk. If ever two "stars" who had faces for radio (Johns words not mine)</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Nick sorted a Trophy Salver and medals from our funds and all were informed that the clubhouse would serve a full english breakfast and a 4pm meal for all those taking part. When 30/60 go on tour we are treated like kings and our thanks to Ken and his staff for all that they did. Here ends my contractual obligations with regards the report and now onto my summary of the day. (Eds Note: Oh dear)</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">I was sent a text the day before from Andy Larkins with two small red dots on a map of Bough Beech. This was, according to him the going hot spot and the place to be which he has surmised using his vast knowledge of water craft and years of experience. I just threw a dart at a map and came up with a different area but who was I to argue. Now Andy and I have not fished together for a few years. I was sick and tired of getting rained on, nearly drowning, falling over, nearly arrested for poaching and being followed by the cloud of doom that seemed to accompany us on every trip we ever made so needed a break from him to be honest. But surely this would be different, Ken assured us that he had booked the day later than normal so we would be able to enjoy the fine weather that was sure to be in abundance. When we got there it was howling down with winds gusting in excess of 50mph, Its not Kens fault, this is what happens when I fish with Jonah the Larkins Boi. Anyways we had his ace in the hole "Pike Hotspot" to look forward too so all was not lost.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">We entered the clubhouse to find that we had been well looked after with a full english breakfast. This was shaping up to be a great day, weather aside.</span> </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">We made a decision that we would fish from the bank due to the high winds and general narly conditions. This would restrict us somewhat owing to our numbers but what did I care Andy and I had already banked on binning the boat and going with his gut. And this is where it all went wrong. Tom Lane our newest member had never fished a Ressie before and was a bit sketchy on bait fishing. He was however a lure nut and has done quite well for himself. He didn't really know anyone and his mentor/ally Richard Gibson was sadly absent having travelled to Thailand to A) fish and B) search for info for same sex marriages. But not to worry we would look after the young un. Enter the Head Bailiff for Bough Beech from Stage left. " Hello Tom your're on the boat with me I got a bait rod or two and a lifejacket and you have your lure rod so we are good to go."......What in the blue hell? Our newest member has hit the ground running with his bandit ways. It took most of us at least a season to stroke pull. Money has changed hands here or the Gibson fella has gone straight to level Dark Side with his mentoring. I despair. But hey never mind I still got Andy "Mr Reliable" Larkins and his hotspot aye. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Jeanie JR's wife and his son Scott had made the journey up from Birchington to attend as well which was a very nice gesture. Jeanie was going to spend the day with Ken and his wife while Scott as an honorary member of 30/60 was going to spend the day in a bout with Andy Brown. That was two boats going out with the rest of us playing safe and being girly on the bank. Now for the boat safety brigade I would add that had conditions been unsafe they would not have gone out. They are both very experienced boat anglers and are aware of their limitations. Having seen conditions on the lee side of the wind where the boats are kept many of us would have had no problem going out in a boat either. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">In Pete's Bay was myself Andy Mick and Pete. Along the Grassy Bank was Neil, Ben, Malcolm, Harry, and Nick. The boats consisted of Andy Brown and Scott with Andy the bailiff his son and Tom. Catch returns were very very poor. John Roberts the conservationist would have been pleased that his Region looked after the pike by not catching them I think. The angler in him would have poked us all with a sharp stick. Petes Bay, or No Pike Bay as its now known. Had 8 rods in it with a boat moving across beyond our rods and onto the far overhanging margin with not a single pike showing for anyone. Highlights of the day consisted of me casting and my weak link parting ways and my nice soft roach flying off the hooks in the opposite direction. Oh how Andy laughed. The wind caught hs cast and it was amusing to watch him bring everything back including the line and bait from his other rod in one big snarly mess. Oh how I laughed. Andy's hotspot didn't produce, we both cocked something up, we both got wet, we both slipped barrowing our gear, we both got blown over, we both blanked. The M2 was shut I had a 37 mile diversion on the way home. Yep I like fishing with Jonah and the cloud of doom.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">So Tom Lane won it. This year we decided to combine our Region fish in with the JR Memorial Trophy as last years was cancelled due to his passing out of respect. Tom won both the trophies and a big well done to him. He enjoyed the day and added another string to his fishing arsenal. Scott came second and won a silver medal with Andy Brown coming third and the Bronze medal. Results couldn't have been better. Our newest member starting his pike journey, JR's son Scott and his very good friend Andy Brown all winning something. He would have liked and seen the significance of that I think.</span></div>

A busy last few months for us to see us to the end of the traditional Pike season and which has also seen the re emergence of Thames Gateway Region which Malcolm Styles has offered to run as RO. We wish them the best of luck and success. Well done Malc. We will be doubling up on one or two of the speakers and can see that happening a fair bit to save on costs in the future. It is with a heavy heart that I must post the following from our Facebook Representative and Region Resident Carpiker Mr. Dirk Steel. He does NOT have log in rights here so all material sent has to be sanctioned and authorised by us. I have omitted some of the more risqué comments/observations in an effort to keep the Blog up and running.</span><br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlFHZOt-KMyS5XrHWzXc6HeQXI4VW5xosMGh8MmfsVTFAGNCKuu9H5Sfn6o-pdtOKuwV2iiVxwG4xMfxg0UsX3N-2luBzsY9HlvGLg_1AFx-REruM6-ShYfQzn3rbMVjOJyRUn-vDuoGw/s1600/IMG_1031.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlFHZOt-KMyS5XrHWzXc6HeQXI4VW5xosMGh8MmfsVTFAGNCKuu9H5Sfn6o-pdtOKuwV2iiVxwG4xMfxg0UsX3N-2luBzsY9HlvGLg_1AFx-REruM6-ShYfQzn3rbMVjOJyRUn-vDuoGw/s1600/IMG_1031.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">My fellow Dirksters. From the man that brought you "PAC Secret Underground Bunker Meeting" and "The Pikers Guide to Carp Speak" The man who installed, out of his own pocket, a revolving door at PAC HQ during PAC 12's tenure to save the bottle neck at the exit. The righter of wrongs, seeker of truth and lover of Carps and Pikes (Dirk puts an "s" on the end cos he can) Has been tasked by the highest in the land to find out about the country's biggest Carp show and to find out exactly what the "Bobby Moore" was.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"> (Ed Note; The term "Bobby Moore" has been included for the benefit of Sean Ellis Essex RO who speaks like that. Dirk is multi cultural)</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Word had reached the head shed that one of our own was in fact a closet carper and attends carp shows up and down the land. I couldn't have that so set off with my trusted Phillipino Ladyboy Colin to get the scoop. The following is a true account of the day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Myself and Colin duly arrived and set about joining the queue to get in. We kept our heads down in an effort to remain on the down low but we was attracting some attention. Colin's damn slingbacks were NOT the things to wear. I told him/her that before we left. Colin got to the counter and things went wrong from the start. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">"£10.00 please" said the nice gentleman.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">"Er" said Colin.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">"£10.00 please" he repeated.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">" Missa Dirk Missa Dirk he stoopid he got it wong. He make me pay. Me never pay, you pay me Missa Till Man me love you long time. For 10 bucky me ..........."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">I jumped in and paid the twonks money before he could finish and we was in.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">The first thing that hit me was the size of the place. HUGE! the second thing that hit was was, and I s**t you not, a row of chairs with some stunning looking girls doing back rubs for the assorted Carpers. Note to PAC 13 Convention Manager "YES PLEASE". I made a mental note to return at the end of the day. We scouted around and spotted our quarry but not before one or two other disturbing sights met our eyes.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">The first thing to be pointed out to me by Colin was that a Korda/Sonic/Carp Stand had pictures of me on there. What in the blue hell was that all about. My cover was blown. I grabbed random people and asked them if they recognised me. Everyone said no but when I frogmarched them to the stand pointed out the pictures, stood next to the pictures in similar poses and asked "What about now" they all said yes that's you in the pictures. That Dirksters is the price of fame and the cross I must bare. Autographs done and dusted whether they wanted any or not I continued on my mission.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">The first real shock of the day came when I saw a gentleman small in stature big in heart. It was that fella who played Balin in the Lord of the Rings films. I ran over to congratulate him on his sterling work only to be even more surprised to find that it was in fact Neville Fickling the PAC Chairman. Now Nev is also small in stature but big in heart and has the perpetual sour face look so beloved by the Dwarves of old so it was an easy mistake to make. We exchanged pleasantries and he is quite a remarkable man. I wanted to pick him up and put him in my pocket and take him home for my old mum. I can now see the attraction that Dave Horton finds irresistible.</span></div>

<span style="color: #6aa84f;">We continued to survey our quarry from a distance when blow me down if we didn't see another PAC stalwart. What the hell was going on here? The next gentleman looking very much at home surrounded by the assorted carpers was our very own Mark Skinner. Now for those that don't know Mark has been the PAC Products Manager since 1874. Many moves have been made to oust him from his firmly entrenched position but he locks up all the merchandise in a safe and refuses to give the combination out. He is also our Regions LO but that's a "cushdy pole innit" (Ed's note; see back catalogued "Pikers Guide to Carp Speak" for explanation/interpretation) There is also a train of thought that Izaak Walton was in fact describing Mark making a delivery when he wrote:</span><br />
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">" Whilsteth anglingeth for the muddeth piggeth I did spyeth a huched backeth man with a heavy loadeth of parcels on a deliveryeth for the great unwashedeth"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Still with all that he has endured in the 200 years he has been doing the PAC Products job the old boy is holding up well. Worn and lived in but holding up.</span></div>

<span style="color: #6aa84f;">You will notice that Budgie is not on the Knot 2 Kinky stand as promised on FB but is in fact on the Realtree Paint Stand.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Budgie: "Hello young carpers I'm Budgie"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Carpers: "We ain't carpers we are pikers"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Budgie: "Get out"</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Carpers: "Hang on mate we are interested in the Realtree paint jobs"</span></div>

<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Eds Note; At this point Budgie decided to drop his trousers in front of the assembled throng including this reporter. In the interests of decency I have decided not to include this photograph. If it saves just one person from the night terrors that I am now suffering it will have been worth it.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>

<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Eds Note; At this point and at the mention of the word Spomb and Realtree Budgie collapsed in a heap. This was no doubt due to a past indiscretion concerning a Spomb and Realtree. I have no idea what that could be and would hope that Budgie would explain ( why is there no suppressed laughing smileys here face)</span></div>
<div>

<br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">By know the carpers were aware that they were dealing with a total loon. A man with a foot firmly entrenched in both the Piking and Carping camps. Shocking! but something this reporter has suspected for some time. I had a major row on t'internet a while back with a "Piker" of some repute. I pointed out that Budgie was a very good Carper. The piker shouted me down and came over all a quiver saying that Budgie was a piker and piker only. Regardless of this reporter stating that he had known Budgie for a number of years and had in fact known of him for far longer, it got very heated with the "Piker of some repute". I have kept the screenshot and hope that I am now vindicated. </span><br />
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Budgie realised that he had been spotted and that he had in fact just lost a sale. His face in this next shot is a mixture of both these emotions shining through.</span></div>

<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>

<br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">So my friends there you have it. The PAC Stalwart Budgie Burgess is a Carpiker like me. Feet firmly in both camps. There was also a PPH sitting on the back of the chair. The man has no shame. I rapidly made my exit. Job done and people exposed. Time to visit that back rub station.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">What a con! There should be laws against it. Why is it ok for the girls to accost you and give you a back rub but the moment you lay them down and reciprocate you get jumped on by security? What followed soured the day and resulted in myself and Colin getting thrown out. Not just shown the door but proper thrown out! dumped in a heap outside. Colin went all Karate Kid on there asses but maintaining the crane position in slingbacks was beyond even his/her many talents and he/she to was jumped on. Stoopid Colin loved that!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Steve"Budgie" Burgess will be appearing at our Region in the near future for a slide show and talk. I hope that this has wetted your appetites and given you my loyal Dirksters food for thought. This reporter will have many questions to ask.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">I shall leave it here my friends. I expect repercussions but rest assured Dirk has kept back some very juicy stuff just in case.</span></div>

<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">Due to circumstances beyond our control we are hereby giving notice that ALL region organised "Teach Ins" are having to be put on ice for the foreseeable future.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">We have enjoyed a very close relationship with MKF who in past years have given us, as members of MKF, permission to fish one of their lakes for our Teach Ins with regards safe pike unhooking and handling. This was the culmination of free instruction with regards pike fishing which was carried out in a classroom environment and casting techniques with lures and different set ups in a field. We also offered free instruction and days out to adult members crossing over from other angling disciplines.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">Now I am teaching the members here to suck eggs but will state the following for those that do not know. Pike are a very important part of the waters eco system. Being the apex predator they have their very important place there. The "Pike Pyramid" has to be maintained as does the Pike to Bait ratio. In our not inconsequential way we believed we did our part in maintaining this. The biggest threat to the Pike is Pike Anglers. Bad handling and incorrect angling can ruin a water very quickly as we all know. Our Teach Ins are an important part of what we as the PACGB do whilst we are "Working for Pike and Pike Angling" Not least of which we hoped that what we did sowed a seed that could grow in the kids and help them in their angling journey as they went onto become the members of clubs in the future</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">Due to the recent "announced" changes within MKF our members will no longer be re-joining due to the costs involved. We make no judgement one way or another. We are anglers not businessmen so would never be so presumptuous in telling anyone how to run their business.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">As anglers I feel that we can say this though. Kids are the anglers and members of the future. Its hard enough getting them away from the Play Stations as it is without pricing them, or indeed the fathers that will take them, out of the game. </span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">We would like to thank the previous MKF management for there help and encouragement and for there foresight in allowing us to teach the kids and adults in what is a specialised subject within angling. We would also like to wish the new Management the success they deserve in the future.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">We are currently looking towards new venues and family orientated clubs that would wish to invest in the future of our sport. It should be an easy task, all they have to do is say "Yes John you can fish here with the kids" It doesn't cost them a penny and they get a pool of future members and an awfully nice write up in the magazine so that will reach a far larger audience of potential members. For any mums and dads looking in, or indeed clubs that have not been contacted yet, we carry our own insurance and everyone is covered by that whilst under our control on the banks of your club.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">As soon as a venue is found you have my word we will continue doing what I and other members of the PACGB are passionate about.</span><br />

Too quickly has it been and gone. A lot of fishing was lost due to the inclement weather and that wasn't the only bad news we as a region suffered I refer you of course to Andy Larkins and his clean sweep.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">First up was the Region 30/60 Annual Pike Quiz. Won by Mr. Larkins with a single solitary point separating first and second place. Despite numerous recounts because I was that second place the result stood. </span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">Next up was the MKF Dave Padgeham Memorial Pike Cup. The boy only went and won that as well. Roving about like a man possessed with his lure rod winkling them out from under our feet. </span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Allright mate hows it going?" said Andy</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Hard mate but I just seen a swirl under that tree there so I've put a bait there." I replied</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Oh good luck mate" He said and dropped in next door.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;">Splash! the coont cast right up to my float. Fish on! Fish landed! May the poaching twonks bed be infested with a thousand fleas.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">Credit where credits due though he worked hard at it all day and was richly rewarded with first prize</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Andy with the MKF cup presented by K. Durman</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Next up was our Regional Fish In. This was held at Cottington Lakes and needless to say Andy's victory here gave him the coveted treble. And there the story ends! Or at least should do but I feel that its only fair that you our loyal and friendly Regional Members are aware of ALL the events that day.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Andy had worked hard securing the event and had phoned me the previous evening to discuss the venue. Now it is well known that Andy was a past member many years ago so knows the waters well. We was not put off by this because a bait is a bait and presented in the right way in the right area will get you a Pike regardless of who you are or what you may know. What isn't so well known is what the complex contains. As stated previously we have close ties with the owners and indeed fish with them at other locations so we are kept in the loop with what is coming out. We are also kept in the loop with who fishes there. We have been told who has been visiting and it reads like a who's who of the piking world. Now this was top of the agenda during our previous evenings discussion. We knew what lake these people were fishing but decided that we wasn't going to jump onto their coat tails but rather go for a harder lake which we know has thrown up some big fish in the past. This would also give us easier access to the Dykes which criss cross the complex if we wished.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Not much there though." Said Andy</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Oh well mate it doesn't matter we got the lake so we'll sit it out and see. Its all about the craic" I replied.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">At this point Andy told me about the huge Roach in the bait freezers at the onsite tackle shop. They were the best that he had ever seen and I'd be an idiot if I didn't get some. More about that in a while.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Duly turned up at said shop the following morning. Pleasantries said and dispensed with Paul the Guvnor and I turned to the bait freezer. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Can I have a couple of packets of these top Roach I've been hearing about?"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"No sorry mate we run out."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Andy said that you would have some out the back."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Yes we did but they've gone as well."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Oh well just my luck.......Erm just out of interest who bought them all?"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">"Andy." He replied almost apologetically but I know John he's a coont kinda way.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">After a discussion over breakfast it was decided that we would fish the lake we knew contained the known big fish that had put an appearance in the year before. I was pegged next to Griff. It wasn't long before we witnessed Andy winkling one out of the Dyke. You remember the Dyke the place that didn't have a lot in. It wasn't long before we witnessed Andy winkle another one out of the Dyke. You remember the Dyke that didn't have a lot in. By this time me and Griff decided to drop a rod into the Dyke but our drop offs were motionless as we watched Andy winkle yet another one out of the Dyke that didn't have a lot in. It was then that we saw what he was doing. Wobbled fecking Roach! The Roach he cleared out lol. To be fair he did give me a packet when we packed up which was nice of him and very useful after the comp had finished the twonk. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="color: #38761d;">Yep the boy done good. His name is now on the trophy that me and Griff consider ours. Oh well it'll come home next year. All joking aside mate well done from all of us it was a good year for you and well deserved.</span></div>

shower facilities are also available to visitors.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>A fully equipped tackle shop is situated
on-site (Anglers Kabin) which stocks the full range of Fox Predator terminal
tackle (plus other manufacturers items) and can also supply a range of frozen
deadbaits (although it's highly advisable to phone and check what is currently
available as not only do they have limited freezer stock/space, but they'll no
doubt be "winding-up" stock as the end of the pike season
approaches).<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

contain some decent specimens, albeit low in numbers.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Alder Lake has produced a number of twenty
pound plus fish, and only last year the complex record was broken by fellow PAC
member Emrys Stead with a low thirty! Black Lake also contains a number of
Pike, with a 19 pounder caught only a few weeks ago.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The dykes around the complex are also
available to predator anglers (although subject to the traditional closed season)
and contain good numbers of Pike, with doubles and the occasional twenty a
distinct possibility to the roving angler. I remember "Captain Bob"
had some previous good results, landing fish to upper twenties several years
ago.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Being that this is a commercial
fishery, over many years the "match-wankers" either threw the Pike up
the bank, or slightly more considerately put them in the dykes (thankfully
times have changed)... Consequently, "some" of those Pike waxed-fat!

Not for me the usual round of excesses and sore heads in the morning this year I decided to do something different and actually have a photo of a "proper un" to start the year off in fine style. As the man with the responsibility of maintaining the blog, along with my assistant YTS trainee Mr fat fingers oops I've pressed the wrong button Larkins, I have decided to go against the secret squirrel pike anglers grain and actually write about my recent trip out.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">I decided that new years eve through to new years day was going to be my plan of attack. That way with me safely plotted up and out of the way of any loud parties and the temptations of the dreaded Spiced Rum I would have more of a chance of getting the photo that in years to come I could look back on and say "Wow! I remember that day well, what a result." </span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">We have all been there. The sleepless night before, picking your spot and the hopeful waiting in anticipation for something, anything to happen. It was no different for me. I arrived at the venue early afternoon after a fitful nights sleep. Too many things had been running through my mind. Things that I could do, things that I must do, what ifs etc etc. Is that the same for everyone? Does everyone run numerous permutations through their brain before venturing out or is it just me. I suspect I know the answer.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">I did a quick scan of the place and decided in a comfortable corner. I was away from the majority of the gawpers and walkers that these sort of places attract. There was no wind and all was calm on the surface but the hairs on the back of my neck were working overtime. Every now and again I get that "This'll be a trip to remember" feeling and its never wrong. I was getting it big time and knew from past experience that I needed to sit this one out. I needed to be here and was going to rewarded for my effort. </span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">The day started very slowly. The wind had got up and the rain started but in my little corner I was sheltered and protected. Nothing much was happening where I was but I noticed that a few others were having their own battles and whoops of joy confirmed that things were definitely happening elsewhere. I caught a glimpse of one lucky fella proudly holding a very big girl and the various camera flashes through the night confirmed that I should not be anywhere else.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">The night passed without much happening. The usual false alarms were followed by periods of extreme boredom. I read a little, walked around the area, phoned some mates, asked the few people still around at that time of night, either being nosey or looking for their own place to plot up, if they had seen anything or even if they knew of anything that may be happening. The same answer was always forthcoming. Nope! No one knew anything, no one had seen anything and no one had any news that I would be remotely interested in. Oh well roll another fag. Does anyone else do that or is it just my generation. Whenever I need something to happen after a long period of inactivity I do one, or sometimes both of these things. I roll a fag or I pour a coffee. How many times have I done that and get an immediate response? I'll bet a months money most of you from a certain generation have done the same, and you'll back me up when I say it works. Well most of the time anyway.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">This night was going to be one of those nights when it didn't. A windy rain lashed night passed by very slowly. Others there were getting some right results but that one photo eluded me. How could I have got it so wrong. That prickly hair feeling was as strong as ever. It had never let me down before. Was this going to be the first time? Nah, as my old mate Andy is fond of saying "Plenty of time yet." even as we're pulling in the last but one rod he'll say "We still got time." His optimism is an inspiration. He's always fecking wrong of course but its still an inspiration nonetheless. To say I was uncomfortable would be an understatement. I've already said that the plan was to do two days and one night. I'm not a lover of doing overnighters in uncomfortable locations. I do not take a sleeping bag with me much preferring to sit in a chair. I believe its important in these situations to be able to move at a moments notice. I would hate for something to happen and I miss it because I am very comfortable in a warm sleeping bag in the land of nod. I spent the night cat napping with an eye opening at any sound or alarm.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">Night passed by with the dark sky turning lighter. Not by much as the storm clouds were still there. Looked like we was going to herald the new year as we left the last. Wet and windy. The place was much busier in the morning than it had been the previous afternoon when I turned up. I saw some familiar faces and went through the usual phrases that have become all to familiar between "Us" and "Them". "Any news?" They ask. "Nah! Nothing yet mate" I reply. or "anything happening?" "Yeah one or two bits but nothing to show for it" "Never mind" they would say "Something will happen soon" What the feck do they know.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">The morning dragged on and I was treated to some close up views of others there holding some nice ones, big and small. I fixed a smile but I was a tad envious. Its hard to show real unbridled joy at others fortune when you are struggling. Don't get me wrong I was pleased for them but my joy could only stretch so far. I needed one myself and this back slapping was getting in the way of it. A time I shall remember well soon came along. 10.35am on the morning of the 1/1/14. An alarm sounded. I was too stunned for it to register for a minute. A shout of "Yes its your turn" filtered through and brought me to my senses. A frantic fight followed possibly the longest I have been involved with. At some point I thought I couldn't handle it. It went on for that long I was no longer enjoying it. It had to end one way or another. And end it did.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">I held the "proper un" up for the one photo shoot that I had waited so long for. The one photo shoot that I had spent the best part of an uncomfortable 2 days and one night for. She weighed 8lbs 7ozs. Not the biggest I have held but for me she was worth her weight in gold. My first Grand daughter. And incidentally currently the country's youngest PACGB member.</span><br />
<span style="color: #38761d;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #38761d;">You didn't think I was talking about fishing surely. I did say in the title it wasn't about fishing lol. Sometimes there are more important milestones to mark. Besides, I'm a squirrel type of piker.......Ain't we all? </span><br />
